A while ago, UCLA (thank you, Jeff Burke) sponsored me, allowing me to go to Derivative’s Los Angeles offices and get trained by two of TouchDesigner’s developers. It was a lot of fun, and their office was fantastic.

An experimental workshop at UCLA. The project incorporated a collection of theatre professionals, media artists, and film students. The basic premise was a two quarter-long deconstruction of the movie and its issues, culminating in a short show exploring those themes.

I was brought in as the LD and Visuals Designer, incorporating the content from different media artists into an overall projection design in the space.

Having fun learning a new piece of software – Derivative’s TouchDesigner. You can check them out here. It’s a customizable program for creating interactive virtual / real world environments. We’re just testing it out at UCLA, but for the time being, I’m the main guy learning it. Another tool in the belt.

I want to find more ways to integrate this into theatre.

First Scenic Design Project since sophomore year. I need to take an art class, but other than that, it was actually received well by my professor. Will be revising, and modeling soon.

Obsessive Political Correctnes
A new play by Eve Ensler

This was a workshop production and reading of Eve Ensler’s new play. Also, my first design in grad school. Not only my first design, but the first show in UCLA’s new experimental theatre lab. No pressure.

A shot I took during the load-in for a workshop reading of Eve Ensler’s new play. The concept for the set was a freegan-esque loft space, beautifully provided by Emily Macdonald. Lighting design by yours truly, and the space has a couple dozen of these simple bulbs. Hoping the design is a good example of less can be more.

Seen outside my apartment in LA. Made my night for some simple reason.

It’s actually posted over the urinal. Inspiring.

My fellow first year dutifully drafts letters, as the first step in her course. Her patience far outweighs my own.
